Wrexham ‘city’ campaign gets underway

Some of Print company in Wrexham printing services Wrexham’s most famous sons have put their backing to a campaign to earn the town city status in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The Queen celebrates here Diamond Jubilee in 2012, when she will select towns to be granted city status. In 2002, the Welsh town of Newport became the newest city in Wales when it was selected by the Queen, ahead of towns that included Wrexham.

The town of Wrexham, backed by its local businesses and Wrexham Print company in print companies printing services print companies, is campaigning hard to be chosen by the Queen to become a city in 2012, and now celebrities who grew up in Wrexham have joined the fight.

Royal Family actor Ricky Tomlinson, and former Blue Peter presenter Tim Vincent, have put their weight behind the campaign. Ricky Tomlinson was originally from Coedpoeth, just down the road from Wrexham. Ricky commented:

I am very pleased to be able to give my wholehearted support to the campaign to secure city status for Wrexham.

As a member of the Royle family, I would like to ask the Queen to please confer this special honour on a very special place.

I am a great fan of Wrexham and the people who live here and I believe this accolade would be richly deserved – and a fitting way of celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Presenter and actor Tim Vincent is also from Wrexham. He is supporting the campaign, and added:

As a native of the Wrexham area, I am extremely proud of my home town and it has a very special place in my heart.

The people of Wrexham are fantastic and there has always been a great community spirit.
