Pride event to make Tunbridge Wells debut

Tunbridge Wells is set to hold its first Pride event, including an LGBTQ+ celebration and town centre march.

The extravaganza will be held on 20th August, when it will be one of many such events staged throughout the UK, such as Canterbury’s annual event and a festival in Margate, which runs for two days in August.

Beginning at 12pm with entertainment throughout the day and evening until 11pm, the celebration will include a solidarity town centre march and end with a party, which is set to take place at the Tunbridge Wells Forum.

Jazz Alexander is planning the event with help from a committee. The goal is to raise the acceptance level and awareness of the LGBTQ+ scene in general throughout the region. She said:

“I think Tunbridge Wells has been quite blind to it for a while, a lot of people have been in the closet for quite long.”

“I’m fortunate enough to be raised where being loved is normal and it doesn’t matter who it is.”

The event will begin at The George, Mount Ephraim, before heading to the town where everyone will be invited to join the festivities.

The organisers will be working hard to ensure that as many people as possible are aware of the event, with posters, leaflets, and a whole range of promotional items undoubtedly part of their marketing plan.
