Stoke-on-Trent sets up private investment plan

Delegates from Stoke-on-Trent have been trying to attract investment at an event in Cannes.

The MIPIM show is an annual occurrence which takes place on the glamorous French Riviera. Business cards from Stoke-on-Trent may be used by people attending events. MIPIM focuses on the property sector. Being part of the conversations at the prestigious occasion can lead to private investment coming to a location that wants it.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has developed a masterplan for the district around the railway station. Swift House could be redeveloped if funding from the private sector was forthcoming. The investment opportunity was showcased in Cannes so there may be some interest going forward.

While there has been some scepticism about the prospects for Stoke-on-Trent in terms of its ability to capture the imagination of investors at the MIPIM show, the delegates have had a positive story to narrate to anyone who would listen. This is because HS2 trains will connect the city to London. As the UK is dominated by its capital in its economic profile, this link could well be significant.

The economic importance of HS2 may be diminished by the advent of new technology. However, the infrastructure announcement was not the only story which could have influenced the thinking of potential investors. Council chiefs from Stoke-on-Trent were able to announce that relatively new office space is now full.
