Lancashire businesses compete for prestigious title

Five local businesses in Lancashire have been shortlisted as ‘Local Business Accelerators’ and one lucky winner will be awarded with free business advice, advertising and mentoring.

The Local Business Accelerators scheme is devised by the Newspaper Society and it aims to champion the most promising young talent in East Lancashire. The five businesses that have been shortlisted to win this accolade are as varied as they are talented. A vintage clothing company, a biodegradable tie company and an adult-learning organisation sit alongside an advertising firm and producers of a ‘what’s on guide’.

All five companies have been invited to pitch to a panel of business experts to showcase their entrepreneurial flair. Two winners will be selected from the contestants and these two companies will benefit from receiving free advice and advertising in the Lancashire Evening Post. Advertising from a prominent regional publication like this will be incredibly valuable for new start-up businesses; and it is especially effective when combined with things like brochure, flyer and catalogue printing. Preston, Blackburn and the surrounding areas are home to potential customers for these budding entrepreneurs so reaching local customers is extremely important.

The two winners will also be put forward for the national finals of the Local Business Accelerators awards. The winner of this will receive mentoring from Deborah Meaden, known for her business acumen and her role on popular TV show, Dragon’s Den; as well as winning the chance to work with an advertising agency in London who will design ads for the winning company.
