A group of individuals, after some very impressive weight loss, have managed to raise over £50,000 through donating clothes they describe as being no longer size appropriate.

Potters Bar Slimming World members decided to get involved in The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw by donating old clothes in a bid to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The group put together 219 bags full of clothes and accessories before donating them to the campaign. Each bag was valued at around £25.

One member, Yasmin Alobaidi, lost 5 stone 8.5 lbs since 2015, and is now able to step into size 10-12 after previously fitting size 18. She said:

“Bagging them up and saying goodbye was like a celebration of just how far I’ve come. I’ve lost nearly 6 stone and not only do I feel like a new person, now I dress like one too and love going into a shop and choosing whatever I like.”

The campaign exists to promote weight loss by raising awareness of the relationship between obesity and developing certain forms of cancer.

Now the group from Slimming World have contributed what they can, the campaign can keep the momentum going by promoting itself by using printed services, such as leaflets and postcards. The cause is clearly an important one that would certainly see others keen to contribute.
