Work starts on temporary library in Paisley

November 14, 2018 by

The work to create a temporary home for Paisley Central Library within a local leisure centre complex is set to get underway this month.

The town’s main library was formerly based next door to Paisley Museum, but had to vacate this site two months ago so that work could begin on the refurbishment and expansion of the museum. Now, the library will be set up in the Lagoon Leisure Centre on a temporary basis, before it moves into its permanent new home in three years’ time.

Its new home will be a cutting edge cultural and educational centre on the High Street, but until then, a site on the south car park of the leisure centre will be used. This will house PCs for public use as well as popular books from the library’s catalogue.

Libraries often make use of stationery printers to ensure they have the admin materials they need. Speaking to a reporter from the Renfrewshire News, Lisa-Marie Hughes, a local councillor and Renfrewshire Leisure chair, stated:

“Although the temporary library based at the Lagoon will be a smaller one, it will be set out so that the most popular items and services can be easily accessed.”

She also added that the new hub would be an exciting digital space that is suitable for people from every age group once it officially launches.
