Newport warehouse wanted as film studio

A warehouse in Newport could be used as a studio by Urban Myth Films.

Urban Myth is looking to convert the warehouse for a period of five years. However, it requires the approval of Newport City Council before it can go ahead. In the past, the company has filmed Atlantis for the BBC. Letterheads from Newport can be useful for enterprises which operate in the region.

The warehouse is located on the Queensway Meadows industrial estate and measures over 135,000 square feet. The building might be handy for Urban Myth because Canal Plus, the French media firm, has commissioned it to make a series with eight parts.

JLL has produced an access and design statement on behalf of Urban Myth. The statement by the agents has been quoted by Insider Media:

“The existing office space will be used by the art department office, and the warehouse space will be used for production and prop and costume storage. There will be no external or elevational changes to the unit as part of this application.”

An explanation for the temporary nature of the deal has been put forward via JLL. The thinking behind the plan is that future contracts remain an uncertain prospect. However, the statement clarified that the probability of international sales means that another series is a reasonable aspiration.
