Upgrade for central Macclesfield on its way

The town centre of Macclesfield should be transformed by the end of 2020.

It has been announced that a new leisure complex will be ready for Macclesfield within a couple of years. The scheme will involve an investment of almost £20 million. Council leaders have been discussing the proposals with David Rutley MP. Leaflet printing in Macclesfield may be used to communicate with the public.

A spokesperson at Cheshire East Council (CEC) told the Macclesfield Express:

“There are many complexities with bringing forward a major development of the nature proposed. While the council wishes to see delivery of a landmark leisure scheme on this site, equally it is important that time is taken to ensure that the detail of the scheme reflects the uniqueness of Macclesfield.”

The project was originally meant to be completed during the course of this year. However, it has not proved feasible to construct the cinema, bars and eateries within the envisaged time period. Engagement with local people about large projects can take a while. Ask Real Estate has shown a willingness to listen to the opinions of interested parties.

Jo Wise has an important role as a strategic regeneration executive, while Frank Jordan is currently serving as the deputy chief executive of CEC. From his discussion with these two figures, Rutley learned that there may be additional investment for the centre of the town.
