Monte Carlo or bust for charity trio

Three friends from Lutterworth are hoping to raise money for cancer charity LOROS, with a 1,000 mile dash across Europe in a £500 car.

Starting in Belgium, the trip will include crossing several European borders as the team pass through Luxembourg, Switzerland, Germany, France, and Italy before finishing at Monte Carlo in Monaco.

The Monte Carlo or Bust Rally is held every year and the rules are simple, buy a roadworthy car for under £500, have at least two qualified drivers, take part in daily challenges, and get to the next checkpoint.

Fancy dress for teams and vehicles is optional but strongly encouraged. At the end of the rally, competitors can scrap their cars at a local scrapyard or simply drive back to the UK if they think the car will make it.

In total, around £300,000 has been raised for UK charities over the past few years, and the trio are hoping their efforts will raise at least £1,000 when they take part in early June. Peter Corderoy, team captain told the Hinckley Times:

“We haven’t started looking for a car yet, but we know a few salesmen who can hopefully find us the best deal. I’m sure we can find a banger for a few hundred quid which will last the journey.”

Family members may expect postcards from every country the team visit.
