UFC fighter from Kilmarnock looking forward to bout

An aspiring Ultimate Fighting Champion (UFC) competitor who lives in Kilmarnock is preparing for what will be the most important bout of her career thus far, when she fights in Glasgow next month.

Joanne Calderwood represents Tristar Gym and she is confident that the fight against Cynthia Calvillo will be the moment when she gives her UFC chances a massive boost, after suffering a disappointing defeat last year.

Calderwood was beaten by Jessica Andrade in that match and the upcoming fight with Calvillo will take place at the same venue – the SSE Hydro. However, the Kilmarnock battler is convinced that this time around she can produce a performance that justifies her top place billing.

According to the Daily Record, she told a reporter from the Kilmarnock Evening Standard that she is ready to put last year’s loss behind her and that winning would really put her into contention for the major UFC titles, adding of Calvillo that:

“She’s an up-and-comer, she’s 5-0, and she’s got good hype behind her. She’s young in the sport and I’m looking forward to the opportunity. Once I’m settled in there, she won’t want to stand with me.”

The fight is scheduled for July and Calderwood’s friends and family can rely on places offering banner printing to help them show their support on the night.
