Date announced for switching on of Christmas lights

The official date for the switching on of the Kilmarnock’s Christmas lights has been announced, marking the start of the holiday season for many residents.

This year’s event seems set to be the biggest and best yet, as a fun-packed variety of activities are being planned for the day. The focal point of it all will be King Street and families are being encouraged to come along and get the festive season underway with a real bang.

An afternoon craft market will start the whole thing off, and this will be followed by live entertainment to get the party started. From 5pm, twin stages hosting live music and a light parade complete with drummers in illuminated costumes will knock the party up a notch.

There will also be a craft zone for young children during the afternoon, a ‘choiraoke’ Christmas singalong and a performance by headline act Angelstar. The switch-on party has been scheduled for 26th November. The town centre manager Fiona Nicolson told the Daily Record that:

“The switch-on of the lights showcases so much local talent and the great thing is every year we find more and more people come along to support and enjoy this special event.”

Local businesses that sell holiday cards are likely to do a roaring trade throughout the course of the day.
