Literary festival takes shape near Hayes

Preparations for the Hillingdon Literary Festival (HLF) are gathering momentum.

The event will be hosted at Brunel University London. Leaflet printers in Hayes can be used to promote local events like this.

The HLF will take place in early October, with famous writers like Will Self and Jonathan Coe scheduled to appear. The free sessions will include debates, book signings, and creative writing classes.

Poet and academic Benjamin Zephaniah will take the opportunity to announce the winner of a literary competition, of which ‘Ordinary People- Exceptional Lives’ has been selected as the theme. Professor Zephaniah explained:

“I am so excited about this years’ competition. Much of my work has been about giving voice to ordinary people, who I believe have exceptional lives. To survive all the things that modern life throws at us we have to be exceptional in our own way.”

Participants in the writing contest must live, study or work near Hillingdon. Adults with this local connection can submit poems or short stories to the judges, and those who impress may have their work showcased in an anthology. The overall winner will receive £250 for their efforts, while the anthology will be made accessible at libraries in the vicinity.

People who want to have a chance of success in the competition will need to get scribbling, as the closing date is August 28.
