Sports club in Glasgow to get specialist wheelchairs

Fitness venue Glasgow Club, located at Kelvin Hall, is set to take possession of new wheelchairs that are specially designed for sports use, providing disabled sportsmen and women with a real boost.

This new equipment comes courtesy of a £12,500 investment by Scotstoun Community Sports Hub, together with Glasgow Sport. This was used to acquire 10 configurable sports wheelchairs supplied by RGK Club Sport and anybody based in Glasgow that wants to give disability sport a go will be able to use them.

The Scottish Women Warriors Wheelchair Basketball Club, which trains at this venue, will make use of the chairs as well – both for training and for matches. The team competes in the Scottish Development League, among other competitions.

Speaking to a reporter from Glasgow Live, the founder of the Warriors, Annemarie Monaghan, stated that she was delighted by the prospect of the chairs arriving and that they would be a huge help to the team, adding:

“We are excited about it! It creates the opportunity for women with and without disabilities to play together and above all else for each to reach their own potential both on and off the court.”

Teams such as the Warriors often rely on places that offer leaflet printing, so that local people interested in attending matches know when they are taking place.
