Edinburgh to get new bookshop

Book lovers who live in Edinburgh have something to look forward to later this year, with the news that a new independent book store will open during the summer.

Topping & Company has already set up successful branches in St Andrews, Bath and Ely, with Edinburgh being the next city the firm plans to expand into. The location for the new shop will be Blenheim Place, within a 4,000 sq. ft. building that holds Grade A listed status, and it is set to be home to around 70,000 books for people to browse.

Alongside all of the fascinating volumes stacked along the handcrafted bookcases, the shop will also offer customers coffee and tea to drink. The company is promising that comedians, politicians and novelists will be invited to appear and give readings at the store as well. New shops often make use of promotional products to help spark interest when they first open.

The chain was originally launched by Robert Topping with the help and support of Louise, his wife. Prior to starting up their own bookshop brand, the couple worked alongside the man behind the Waterstones chain – Tim Waterstone – when that company was in its infancy.

The shop in Edinburgh is scheduled to open its doors to the public towards the end of the summer, with progress updates being provided via the company website.
