Accelerator to be launched in Edinburgh

Wayra UK has announced that it will be launching a new Scottish accelerator, with Edinburgh the chosen location, and the University of Edinburgh will be its partner.

Wayra UK is an accelerator scheme for business start-ups and its planned accelerator will be focused on blockchain and AI technology. The University is set to team up with the company on this project, which will be the first Wayra facility in Scotland and will have space for 20 Edinburgh start-ups when it opens its doors later in the year.

The project will also have the backing of Scottish Enterprise and is likely to create jobs for around 400 people in the local area. It will be the sixth business accelerator that Wayra has in operation across the UK.

Telefonica launched Wayra UK six years ago and firms that sign up for this new facility will be able to access its global and UK companies. Dave Robertson from the University of Edinburgh, told Global University Venturing:

“Our vision is to become the leading AI and blockchain accelerator in Europe, supporting the best start-ups to scale globally, and we see this partnership as a valuable step to realising that aim.”

It will open in September and start-up firms in Edinburgh can call on the help of places that print quality business cards for use in networking.
