Crowdfunding campaign for diving club near Edgware

A club for divers located near Edgware has launched a campaign on a crowdfunding website to help it raise the cash needed for a specialist new pool.

North London Aquatics hopes to secure the £3 million required for the deep water pool to be built at the Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre. Club members are hoping that this can be its new home once its current home undergoes demolition, which is due to take place during 2019.

It is vital that the club raises the money to make this possible, as the nearest available pools are in Stratford and Luton, which would put the future of the diving club at risk due to the distances involved.

The club has created a Youtube video campaign and is using Space Hive crowdfunding site Space Hive for donations. Alongside such modern options, clubs often use traditional methods like flyer printing to help them promote fundraising campaigns.

Speaking to Times Series, Wendy Kravetz, the club’s chairman said:

“We have a few people who could become elite divers but when our pool goes people will have to travel hours to go and train. A new building is needed for these people and we could have 2,000 to 3,000 people use our pool a week.”

The club has already acquired the land and £500,000 towards its goal.
