East Kilbride arts centre confirms outdoor venue for A Midsummer Night’s Dream

An East Kilbride theatre group is set to stage an outdoor production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream this week, starting today.

Bookends Theatre Group is planning to host the production in the grounds of the East Kilbride Arts Centre. The play itself is set in a forest so the storyline lends itself well to being performed outdoors. The director, Jim Ewing, said that whilst the players were hoping for dry conditions, the play will be taken indoors if the weather did not hold out.

The performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream follows on from the successful production of The Merchant of Venice last year. Bookends Theatre Group was formed from the remnants of other local theatre troupes were formed in Hamilton and they now perform throughout Lanarkshire, often to sell-out audiences. The group is made up of a number of actors, producers, writers and directors and productions are staged by the group itself, from concept to delivery.

Many theatre groups like Bookends, whether amateur or professional, often decide to take the success of their production into their own hands by arranging their own advertising and programme creation, using local brochure printers.

East Kilbride Arts Centre was the setting for last year’s production by Bookends and the cast and crew are hoping for another successful run of shows. The play will run from today, Wednesday 22nd, to Saturday 25th June and tickets can be obtained from East Kilbride Arts Centre’s booking line on 01355 261000.
