Sainsbury’s Halloween tie-in with Scooby Doo

Supermarket retailer Sainsbury’s has joined forces with Warner Bros. to feature characters from the spooky cartoon Scooby Doo for their Halloween pos printing.

From Coatbridge to Coventry, branches of Sainsbury’s will feature the Halloween-themed point of sale material which has been produced using full colour printing. Coatbridge and Cardiff are of course not the only areas to benefit from this Halloween revamp, of course. Children around the country will not only be delighted to see their favourite characters represented in the store, they can also enjoy treats on offer in store including Halloween themed food and fancy dress items from £1.

Halloween has become big business in the UK, with some retail experts estimating that it is now the third biggest ‘holiday’ occasion in the calendar, behind Christmas and Easter. It has been suggested that it has replaced Valentine’s day in terms of retail spend and experts are predicting that spending on Halloween-themed goods will exceed £315m, which is a 12.5% increase on last year.

The campaign has run throughout the lead-up to Halloween and will give way to Sainsbury’s Christmas campaigns. Sarah Bird is the Marketing Director for Warner Bros Home Video. She recently told Marketing Week:

“Teaming up with Sainsbury’s is just one example of how we can plan and execute a compelling cross category promotional campaign with one of the UK’s leading retailers and one of the UK’s favourite family brands.”

The pos printing ran in line with the release of a new DVD; Scooby-Doo Curse of the Lake Monster.
