Birmingham to host hummus festival

A new kind of festival is set to come to Birmingham this year, and will be dedicated to hummus. It will offer attendees a different experience to regular food and drink festivals.

It may appear to be a niche culinary area to devote an entire festival to, in comparison to the kebab and pizza events that Birmingham has previously hosted, but that isn’t putting organisers Supersonic off. The festival will be one of the events on the city’s summer calendar.

The Mockingbird Cinema & Kitchen, located within the Custard Factory workspace, will serve as the venue for the event. It is being described as a celebration of the dip made from chickpeas that hails from the Middle East.

Those curious enough to head along will find pop-up shops, live demos, DJs, a bar, more than 20 street food traders, and the documentary ‘Hummus! The Movie’. It will take place on 21st July and organisers told the Birmingham Mail:

“What is hummus? It is a creamy, thick spread made primarily from mashed chickpeas and a few other healthy ingredients that has become popular worldwide over the past couple of decades.”

Festivals of this sort frequently rely on local printers that are capable of providing brochure printing, so people can see what activities have been scheduled.
