Ideas festival to return to Belfast

A popular annual festival that aims to explore a wide range of ideas about the world around us is set to take place in Belfast again later in the year.

Imagine Belfast 2019 will be held during the spring and the organisers are promising that this year’s festival will be the biggest and the best yet. The programme of events is set to include more than 100 discussions, debates, exhibitions, films, theatre and workshops at a variety of different locations throughout Belfast.

Among those who have already been lined up are environmental campaigner and journalist George Monbiot and author Lionel Shriver. There will also be a performance by comic Shazia Mirza, and a new exhibition by the artist Rita Duffy.

This year’s event is also going to feature activities that those who are attending can get directly involved in, such as ‘satirical craftivism’, where they will make sculptures from wooden pellets. Festivals like this often use brochure printing so that they can produce an information booklet detailing what’s on.

Speaking to the Irish News, the founder of Imagine Belfast, Peter O’Neill said:

“There’s something for everyone in our programme and we are particularly keen to involve people who are traditionally not involved in political debates. So join us in preparing for a better tomorrow.”

It will be held between the 25th and 31st March.
