New charity race event for Basingstoke

A new charity 5 kilometre race event is set to take place in Basingstoke this summer.

Destination Basingstoke is the new name for the run which will take place around the Festival Place shopping centre in the town before leading on to Basing View and Eastrop park. The council and business owners hope that by hosting the race through the town’s shopping centre, people coming down to support their loved ones will stay in town and shop, making a day of it.

Steven Connolly, the director of Festival Place shopping centre, commented on the race in a recent conversation with the Basingstoke Gazette. Steven said,

““There was a Festival Place 5k race a couple of years ago, but this time it is an official UK Athletics event, with chip timing and a certified 5k distance so we hope it will appeal both to seasonal runners as well as those just wanting a fun challenge – we hope it is the ultimate Sunday morning experience – a race and then the chance to do some shopping.”

5k races, fun runs and charity marathons are becoming more and more popular across the UK and supporters are turning to new ways of showing their support for loved ones who are running in these races. Printing companies in Basingstoke often get involved with creating motivational materials to cheer on someone running on behalf of a particular charity, by producing large-format signs using banner printing.

Basingstoke residents wishing to find out more about how they can enter the race can do so via the Destination Basingstoke website. Registration for race entrants closes at the end of May 2013.
