Change of name planned for beloved Kilmarnock pub

A popular pub in Kilmarnock has recently undergone a name change, as the venue’s new owners look to freshen things up.

Jackie Kyle and Ian Campbell have been in charge of the pub, called Fanny By Gaslight, for just over a year now and are keen to make the venue their own. It is located on West George Street and has become one of the town’s most popular pubs due to its setting and live music. Kyle and Campbell have assured locals that this will remain the same.

The pub has undergone a number of name changes during its long history, with ‘Fifty Waistcoats’ and ‘The Railway Tavern’ among the names it has had since it originally opened back in 1846.

It dates back to the Victorian era and enjoys listed status, but it is the live music every Friday evening that has made it so loved in the town and the owners insist that won’t change. According to the Daily Record, Jackie told the Standard:

“The name change is something we hummed and hawed about for a while and we seriously considered and worried if it would have a negative impact, but I genuinely don’t think it will.”

Pubs based in the town often use flyer printing to promote any live events they have planned.
