Curry company from Ayr wins award

An Ayr-based company that produces authentic and handmade meals from India picked up a top award at a ceremony held earlier this month.

Punjab Pakora is situated on Crown Street in Ayr and has a staff of 40 people creating its Indian dishes. The firm won the prize for Business of the Year at this year’s British Indian Awards, and it was up against stiff competition in this category from other Asian-run companies across several different commercial sectors.

The woman who set up the company and still runs it, Vinita Duggal, was at the ceremony – alongside Nikita, her daughter, who works for the firm. The pair had to wait for 23 other awards to be announced before it was their turn.

Business of the Year is considered the most prestigious of the prizes and it was the only one claimed by a Scottish firm. During her acceptance speech, Nikita spoke about the company and her love of Ayrshire, with Vinita telling the Daily Record:

“This is such a special award for us and puts us onto a higher level. We have gone from winning a Scottish business award to the business of the year in the UK. We are so happy our hard work is being noticed.”

When companies win awards they often choose to thank their staff with corporate gifts.
