A flexible workspace is planned within an easy commuting distance of Southampton.

Southampton’s Network is to be a feature of Marlands shopping centre. Key influencers and stakeholders have taken an active interest in the proposals.

Denise Edghill focuses on skills and economic development for Southampton City Council (SCC). She recently addressed an event that showcased what the workspace might be able to deliver. Ms Edghill said:

“Co-working environments are well established in cities such as London and Manchester and it’s imperative that we provide a fit for purpose flexible space in order for this growth industry sector to continue to thrive in Southampton.”

Ms Edghill wants Network to be a co-working space that promotes entrepreneurship. The hope is that the creative industries, including printing services, and the digital sector will get local momentum. SCC is putting an investment of £1.5 million into the scheme in question. The idea is that the venture will be up and running next year.

The Marlands shopping centre could be transformed because of the move. Asset managers Ellandi have suggested that they could upgrade the building. This would entail the construction of a fresh entrance and the installation of new lifts. In addition, windows on the second level of the structure might be replaced.
