Redditch athlete receives cash help

A local athlete has recently obtained £1,000 in funding from the Redditch Round Table (RTT).

Club throwing star Leanna Horne got the £1,000 at an evening for Redditch’s Women of Achievement. The athlete is a world number one in her sport. She needs to raise £20,000 to continue in international competition.

Charlotte and Craig’s Serving Hearts Foundation played a role in the fundraising activity at the roundtable. Printing services in Redditch can be useful in the third sector. Rob Underwood, who works at the foundation, told the Redditch Standard:

“She was telling me about her next Games, in Spain, and how she needs to take two carers with her to compete, but has no funding. She even has to pay for her own kit.”

Underwood was really impressed by Horne when he met her. He discussed the situation with his wife. Trustees of the foundation also contributed to the debate. David Bush, a councillor, stepped up to the plate. Councillor Bush was involved in the provision of support for the talented youngster.

RTT was keen to back Horne because of her talent and the group wants to ensure that her ability is not wasted because of disability.

Horne competes in the shot putt but now competes in the club throw. As a junior, her efforts were recognised within the West Midlands and last year, she threw a new personal best.
