Literary fans in for a treat at Dickens exhibition in Strood
December 8, 2010 by Lyndon
Fans of English literature are in for a rare treat as a collection of books by the author Charles Dickens is set to be exhibited in Strood. This exhibition is one of the most complete Dickens collections in existence and is called the Fitzgerald collection after its collector and friend of Dickens, Percy Fitzgerald. This is set to be a treat for not only aficionados of Charles Dickens and his works, but also for print enthusiasts as many of the works are original copies and first editions of books that have since become world famous. Printing companies in Strood will find the exhibition particularly interesting because of the ties to early printing methods that shaped the industry as we know it today.
Dickens has always had a firm root in the Strood area, with Dickens World being based a few miles away in Chatham, an area that Dickens is said to have lived briefly in his childhood years. Dickens World and other local tourist attractions often look for services such as flyer printing in Strood to help promote events and exhibitions. The Aforementioned Fitzgerald collection of Dickens books will also be promoted using services like poster printing. Strood residents can enjoy this exhibition of print and literature from Wednesday 8th December and it commences with an evening of readings and a play. This and other exhibitions help generate business for companies offering services like poster and flyer printing in the Strood area, which in turn drives more business to the region.
