Preston Guild plans marketing campaign

Preston Guild is a ceremony that happens once every 20 years to celebrate the history of the area. The Guild features processions, ceremonies, a ball and a firework display; all aimed at celebrating the history of Preston.
Preston Guild 2012 is being dubbed by Karl Sanderson, Vivid’s Creative Director as: “Britain’s oldest festival in Britain’s youngest city.” There are plans to promote Preston Guild across several marketing and advertising channels, including online, outdoor, ambient and print – bringing the Guild to life through the use of digital, experiential and full colour printing. Preston Guild dates all the way back to the middle ages, with the first Guild being held in 1179.
The Guild is an opportunity for Preston to make a mark its mark in history and is being supported by the tourist board for Lancashire and Blackpool. The event is being promoted as an event that happens once in a generation and the marketing campaign looks set to reflect this.
Local residents are also being encouraged to get involved with Preston Guild in a variety of ways, from events and administration support to marketing support. Details of how to volunteer are on the Guild website.
Preston Guild celebrations run on the same week every twenty years, but this year the Guild week is being extended to ten days to celebrate Preston’s 10th anniversary as a city. Events will run from 31st August to 9th September 2012 and a complete programme of events will be released nearer the time.
