Renowned style and fashion icon Gok Wan recently visited Glasgow as part of a national advertising campaign to promote his new range of spectacles.
Gok Wan visited Glasgow City Centre as part of the nationwide tour to promote the new range of spectacles he has designed for high-street opticians Specsavers. Gok Wan is the star of ‘How to Look Good Naked’, a TV show aimed at improving the self-confidence of women by showing how the right outfits and accessories can make them feel better about themselves. Gok Wan’s promotional road show for his new range is part of a wider marketing campaign that runs across several channels including printing press ads and online advertising.
Specsavers has become known for its quirky parody advertisements that run across TV, online and in print over recent years. However, the optical chain recently announced that it was reviewing its media buying agency arrangements, which may signal changes for the way the brand is advertised.
Whilst big companies like Specsavers have marketing budgets that amount to millions of pounds, smaller companies can take a leaf out of their book and create innovative campaigns using local printing companies. Glasgow residents have been known to respond positively to advertising that is created using flyer or poster printing in the past, so whilst a TV ad campaign starring a celebrity may be out of reach, a professionally printed advertising campaign is well within the reach of many local businesses.
