Charity walk for Dunfermline teacher

July 13, 2016 by

A teacher based in Print company in Dunfermline printing services Dunfermline has embarked upon a marathon trek across the country, as he seeks to raise funds for two charities that supported people close to him.

Sean Howie is a teacher at Dunfermline’s Cairneyhill Primary School and got his four-week walk underway on July 4. During the course of it, he will traverse 480 miles, finishing up at Cape Wrath, located in the Scottish Highlands. This wearying walk is in aid of the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK.

He came to the decision to undertake it after a difficult period in 2015 that saw Kevin, his cousin, endure heart problems and Fiona, his girlfriend, suffer from breast cancer. Happily, both went on to make full recoveries, but Howie told the Dunfermline Press:

“It spurred me on to do something, especially as they were both very young when it happened. Kevin had a heart defect and dropped down in the five-a-side hall; he was in hospital for a few weeks and had to wait to have a heart operation.”

He went on to add that hospital staff had provided tremendous care to both him and Fiona during their illnesses, which made him keen to support them in return.
