Scottish print initiative shapes the future of printing companies in Coatbridge
December 3, 2010 by Gareth
Printing companies in Coatbridge and beyond are helping to shape the Scottish print industry of tomorrow by backing a government-led initiative to encourage students to consider a career in print. PrintIT! Scotland is the programme that runs alongside the standard grade qualification in Graphic Communication and offers young people the opportunity to gain insight into the printing industry. Students from schools around Scotland are encouraged to work alongside printing companies to gain valuable experience. This in turn is set to strengthen the Scottish printing industry thanks to an influx of new talent that has been generated by the PrintIT! Scotland scheme.
Students taking part in the scheme worked with print firms on every aspect of the print industry, from designing and setting up print jobs, right through to specific tasks like business card printing. Coatbridge students were amongst those gathered at the South Lanarkshire Council’s banqueting suite in November for the first ever PrintIT! Scotland awards. These awards celebrated the achievement of local students as well as thanking print companies in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire and even further afield for their involvement in the scheme.
PrintIT! Scotland has enjoyed a busy and successful first year and this looks set to continue, with the application process already being open for PrintIT! Scotland 2011. This is testament to the success of companies throughout Scotland who provide services like poster, brochure and stationery printing. Coatbridge is just one area where the print industry is enjoying a period of regeneration.
