Good things in small packages

Residents of Coatbridge are quite rightly proud of their home city as they scooped an award from Beautiful Scotland for the ‘best small city’ for the second year on the run. The judges of the award were said to have been very impressed by Coatbridge and described the place as ‘vibrant’ and having an ‘up and coming community’. As a result of their award, Coatbridge will now be entered into the Britain in Bloom competition due to the parks and community gardens around the city.
MPs from around the region joined together to congratulate the area on the impressive award claiming that Coatbridge well deserved the praise due to the transformation period that the city has gone through in recent years in terms of new housing areas and attractions such as the Time Capsule and Summerlee Heritage Park.
The city should use the award to encourage more visitors to the area and use print companies in Coatbridge to get literature and advertising out into the wider region to raise awareness of the accolade and Coatbridge’s attractions.
The North Lanarkshire Council was praised for the improvements to the area but acknowledgement was given to community groups and individuals in the area who have worked hard to raise its image. Community gardens, which had become a hangout for people committing anti-social behaviour, had received a considerable amount of attention and effort by involving the community and schools to build a green area that people can have some pride in.
