Iconic poster design inspires new dad to deliver his own baby
July 29, 2012 by Michael
A new father from Chorley, near Bolton, recently remained calm under pressure as he helped deliver his girlfriend’s baby at home – by focusing on the iconic ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ poster design.
In a rather unusual twist of events, Mikey Edwards, 24, and his girlfriend Sadie Forrest, 21, had been to a maternity unit when she felt that her labour had started. However, Forrest was asked to return to her home in Chorley and come back later, as she was not considered to be far enough along in the birthing process. Shortly after returning home, Forrest went into the late stages of labour in the bath, and Edwards calmly helped to deliver the baby.
In a heart-warming chat to the Bolton News, Edwards spoke about the experience. He said:
“As soon as Sadie got in the bath I realised we were talking minutes rather than hours. I tried to stay in control and help her relax. I kept thinking of that poster ‘Keep Calm and Carry On.’ I can’t describe the joy after he was born. I just held Sadie and Hugo and wouldn’t let go.”
It may seem unusual for a brave act of helping to deliver a baby to be inspired by poster printing, but
Bolton printers will be the first to extoll the power of print when it comes to creating memorable messages. Luckily for Forrest, Edwards and little Hugo, this iconic poster’s message came in more than handy.
