Manchester pub showcases local artists’ work

Print company in Manchester printing services Manchester pub ‘Mr Thomas’s Chop House’ has joined forces with advertising agency, The Raft, to create a competition and an exhibition to showcase some of the region’s finest new illustration talents.

The gastropub in Manchester city centre will play host to ‘Mr Thomas’s Art Fair’ and will display 25 pieces of illustration work from the art schools around Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Yorkshire regions.

There were around 160 entries to the competition and an impressive panel of judges selected the 25 best pieces of work to go on display in the pub. The judging panel included illustrator Ian Pollock and also the youngest artist ever to have painted the Queen, Darren Baker. The creative director of advertising agency, The Raft, Phil Howells was also on the judging panel.

The eventual winner will win £500 cash prize and a printer with five runners up receiving smaller cash prizes. As an added boost to local charity, North West Air Ambulance service, each piece of artwork will be available to buy in an auction and funds will be split between the charity and students. It is hoped that the competition will be the first of many and help to kick start the students’ careers.

The event is due to be promoted by a website developed by The Raft agency and they will also be creating a catalogue, photography and posters to champion the event.
